Abbott and Holder

The renowned partnership as it then was started life in 1936 when Robert Abbott and Eric Holder decided pictures should be available to all at affordable prices. During World War II Abbott and Holder bought a large house located in leafy Barnes which acted as both home to Robert Abbott and as a Gallery for displaying its ever increasing stock which was largely visible in a domestic environment. Seventy-five years later they are still producing interesting monthly lists that even in the 21st Century have items priced below £100. The lists themselves make amazing reading as artists who were priced at ridiculously low prices in the early years are today only affordable by the very wealthy. John Abbott joined the firm in 1971 and when he retired in 2001 Philip Athill became Managing Director of what is now a Limited Company.
