Ben Uri Gallery

Founded in 1915, by Russian-born artist Lazar Berson, (1882-1954) it is Europe’s only dedicated Jewish Museum of Art. Ben Uri is an educational institution committed to enriching the quality of life of all whom it impacts. The 'Society' was officially founded at Gradel's Restaurant in Whitechapel, its raison d'etre was and still is to explore the lives and contribution of British and European artists of Jewish descent, placed where appropriate in conjunction with their non–Jewish contemporaries, within the artistic and social framework of the national cultural heritage. The St. John's Wood, London-based gallery’s permanent collection, the largest of its kind in the world, houses artists of the calibre of Jacob Epstein, Mark Gertler, Jacob Kramer, Bernard Meninsky, Clara Klinghoffer, Abraham Games, David Bomberg, Isaac Rosenberg, Alfred Wolmark and many more covering the 18th-21st Centuries. By the beginning of 2016 the collection held over 1300 items.
