Bolton Art Gallery

The gallery holds an impressive collection of paintings including more than 300 oils the majority dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. These include works by John Everett Millais, William Turner, Paul Sandby and from the 20th century works by Vanessa Bell, John Bratby, Terry Frost, Roger Fry, Duncan Grant, Ivon Hitchens, Augustus John, Laura Knight and Ben Nicholson. There are nearly 2000 watercolours, drawings and prints in the collection, and all but a very few are by British artists. The 20th century is represented by works from artists as diverse as Frank Auerbach, Elizabeth Blackadder, David Bomberg, Edward Burra, Jacob Epstein, Charles Ginner, Albert Goodwin, L. S. Lowry, John and Paul Nash, John Piper, Philip Wilson Steer, Graham Sutherland and Keith Vaughan.

Bolton Art Gallery also possesses an interesting group of British Pop Art prints from the 1960's.
