Broughton House Gallery

Located in central Cambridge this gallery was founded in 1987 and as such is the longest established commercial art gallery in the city. The gallery is housed on the ground floor of an 18th-century townhouse with a walled garden. Arguably its greatest claim to fame is its archive of the internationally renowned wood engraver and granddaughter of Charles Darwin, Gwen Raverat. There are more than 500 different engravings archived and printed by the artist and the gallery has published three books of her engravings.

Other members of the Darwin/Raverat family including Sophie Gurney (Gwen’s younger daughter), Lucy Raverat,(b. 1948) Nelly Trevelyan and Emily Pryor, her three granddaughters also show their work at Broughton. In 2008 the gallery was renamed the Gwen Raverat Gallery at Broughton House.
