Burton Art Gallery

The gallery, based in Bideford, north Devon, was built specifically to house the collections of artist Hubert Coop and was opened in 1951. This consists of watercolours, oil paintings and Napoleonic ship models. Important additions to the collections have since included the works of local artists Judith Ackland and Mary Stella Edwards, which were presented to the gallery in 1971 on the death of Ackland. The collection now consists of over 2500 pieces of art and includes works by George Clausen, Mark Fisher, Arthur Friedenson, Hugh Percy Heard, E. Aubrey Hunt, Sheila Hutchinson, John Lavery, John Littlejohns, William MacTaggart, Alfred Munnings and Bertram Prance. There are many prints and drawings including works by local artist Allin Braund.
