Collins Gallery

The gallery is part of the University of Strathclyde which is funded in turn by Glasgow University. The art collection comprises some 1000 prints, paintings, drawings and small sculptures ranging in date from the 18th century to contemporary works. Approximately 75% of the artworks adorn offices and communal areas on the John Anderson and Jordanhill campuses. In October 2000, the University received a generous gift of some 400 works by contemporary Scottish artists from Dr Helen Cargill Thompson and continues to benefit from further donations. There is a strong concentration of Scottish related artworks with examples by Kate Downie, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Hilda Goldwag, Eduardo Paolozzi and George Wyllie all of whom have either exhibited at the Collins Gallery and/or are housed in the collection. Sculpture also forms an important part of the collection with examples by Zadok Ben-David, Margaret Hunter and Dhruva Mistry.
