Epping Forest District Museum

Created as recently (compared to many art collections) as 1969 by the Chigwell Urban District Council it was passed to Epping Forest District Council on the Council's creation in 1975. Although the collection is small it does reflect the history and geography of the District. The majority of paintings either illustrate local scenes, events and residents or are by artists with strong links to the area. The collection also holds some work by artists from the wider county, purchased from the Artists in Essex exhibitions, which Epping hosted until 2000. Most of the works have been donated by local residents or acquired with the help of grant aid bodies. Artists represented include Lucien Pissarro, Walter Spradbery and Haydn Mackey.
