Falmouth Art Gallery

The core of the town's art collection dates from 1923, with gifts made by Alfred Aaron de Pass, 1861-1952, a South African businessman and art benefactor. Falmouth Art Gallery has one of the leading art collections in Cornwall and features work by old masters, major Victorian artists, British Impressionists, leading maritime artists and contemporary painters and printmakers.

Falmouth has had a history of attracting artists to Cornwall for nearly 200 years. These include names such as JMW Turner, Charles Napier Hemy, Frank Brangwyn, Burne-Jones, Laura Knight, Alfred Munnings, William Strang, Henry Scott Tuke, Stanhope Forbes and George Frederick Watts resulting ultimately in works by all of them being in the gallery collection. Other major artistic stars include John Singer Sargent, Augustus John, William Coldstream, Ben Nicholson, Christopher Wood and Cornishman Alfred Wallis.
