Gracefield Arts Centre

Acquired in 1951 the former house, ‘Gracefield’ was by local endeavour and fundraising, turned into an Art Gallery. The gallery became the home for a collection of paintings owned by the Dumfriesshire Educational Trust and over the years, new pictures have been purchased, gifted or loaned to the collection.

In 1975 the Gallery became the responsibility of the Dumfries and Galloway Regional Council, who instituted a total refurbishment of the building. There are more than 500 works housed in the collection dating from the 1840's to the present day represented by artists such as Michael Ayrton, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, John Bellany, Elizabeth Blackadder, Alfons Bytautus, RO Dunlop, Mark Gertler, Robert Gemmel Hutchison, Robin Philipson and Feliks Topolski. The Dumfries and Galloway Fine Art Society stage their exhibitions at Gracefield.
