Haworth Art Gallery

Although small by volume with a little more than one hundred oil paintings the quality of this collection exceeds its size immeasurably. Many pictures were bequeathed by Anne Haworth (1845–1920) and her brother William Howarth (1848–1913) and it is indeed their home built in 1909 as a retirement home, situated a mile to the south of Accrington that houses the collection. Opened to the public in 1921 the date range of its art works cover the early 18th century to the present. Artists represented include Claude-Joseph Vernet, (1714-1789) John Frederick Herring Jnr, Eugène Verboeckhoven, (1977-1881), William Shayer, (1787-1879), Benjamin Williams Leader, (1831-1923), John MacWhirter, Anthony Vandyke Copley Fielding, (1787–1855), Edmund Morison Wimperis, (1835-1900), Thomas Sidney Cooper, Luke Fildes, Frederic Lord Leighton, (1830-1896), Julius Olsson, Gerard de Rose, Leslie Duxbury and John Virtue.
