Lytham St Annes Art Collection

The Collection is arguably amongst the finest town hall collections in the country. Although it began in 1925 does not have a permanent gallery. But, in 2008 the original donor family, Booths, opened Fylde Gallery within their food, wine and grocery store in Lytham. This gallery is used to display a selection of the paintings in a series of themed exhibitions. The online catalogue features all the artworks held in public ownership by Fylde Borough Council and it is served by a well researched and planned site. There are currently in excess of 240 pictures in all mediums plus sculptures.

The Collection concentrates on artists who were active before and during the 19th and first half of the 20th century. Paintings by Richard Ansdell, Henry Fuseli, Alfred Elmore, John Morgan, Federico Andreotti and Charles Burton Barber are among the works housed in the Collection. What is remarkable is that this high-quality gathering has been amassed purely through public donations. The 20th century is represented by George Clausen, Percy Craft, Alfred De Breanski and others.
