Otter Gallery

The permanent art collection at the University of Chichester is displayed in the Otter Gallery. It is comprised primarily of works art acquired in the post-World War II decade and is, despite limited funding a very significant collection of mid-20th-century British art. Mediums include oils, watercolours, prints, ceramics, sculpture, tapestry and silver. Artists have helped with advice, introductions and allowing the purchase of work at favourable prices. In this way, major works of art were acquired from artists such as Terry Frost, Peter Lanyon, Stanley Spencer and Graham Sutherland. Throughout the year general exhibitions are held in the Gallery, but at least one exhibition, usually in the summer, is devoted to displaying major works from the collection. Exhibitions are sometimes run in conjunction with the nearby Pallant House Gallery.

Artists represented include not only the above mentioned but Edward Bawden, Elizabeth Blackadder, Sandra Blow, John Bratby, John Craxton, Richard Eurich, Mary Fedden, Paul Feiler, Mary Fedden, Adrian Heath, Pat Heron, David Hockney, Bernard Meninsky, Henry Moore, Paul Nash, John Piper, Alan Reynolds, Walter Sickert, Graham Sutherland, Keith Vaughan and Christopher Wood to name but a few.
