Royal Cornwall Museum

The Truro-based Royal Institution of Cornwall – the organisation that owns and manages the Royal Cornwall Museum and Courtney Library - was founded in 1818. The collection comprises over 2000 items which consist of paintings in oils and watercolours, drawings, prints and sculptures. The highlights include work by not only Cornish artists but artists who have lived and worked in Cornwall, with an obvious emphasis on the Newlyn School and St. Ives School. There are several paintings by Henry Scott Tuke and by Harold Harvey. There are also works by Stanhope Forbes, Elizabeth Forbes, Julius Olsson, Norman Garstin, Annie Walke, Charles Napier Hemy and George Sherwood Hunter.

Outside the 'Cornish' related area are works by George Romney, John Constable, John Sell Cotman, Thomas Gainsborough, Samuel Prout, JMW Turner, Van Dyck, John Singer Sargent, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Peter Paul Rubens, Correggio, Guardi, Tiepolo, Il Guercino, Thomas Rowlandson and Augustus John. Truly an eclectic collection.
