Rye Art Gallery

The gallery was founded in 1957 by local artist Mary Stormont (1871-1962) who first came to the Sussex town with her husband 1898. At her death she left money, property and paintings all of which formed the basis for the gallery which now by acquisition and donations has some 500 paintings in its collection.

Artists and sculptors represented or who have shown there include Margaret Barnard, Edward Burra, Jacob Epstein, Claude Flight, Laura Gosse, Duncan Grant, Ivon Hitchens, Roger Hilton, LS Lowry, Robert MacKechnie, Paul Nash, John Piper, Ceri Richards, Mick Rooney, John Ryan and Graham Sutherland.
