Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art

Opened in 1960, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art is located in Belford Road, Edinburgh and houses the national collection of modern art in Scotland. The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art is part of the National Galleries of Scotland. It houses Scotland’s finest collection of modern art covering the 20th and 21st Centuries. Artists and sculptors represented include Ian Hamilton Finlay, Henry Moore, Rachel Whiteread and Tony Cragg, Barbara Hepworth. The nearby Dean Gallery shows special collections of international renown focusing on its superb collection of Dada and Surrealist works by leading exponents such as Dalí, Miró, Ernst and Magritte, as well as sculpture by Eduardo Paolozzi. French and Russian art from the beginning of the 20th Century are represented as is Cubist painting and Expressionist and Modern British art. Matisse and Picasso are both present as are the work of English and American artists of the calibre of Francis Bacon, David Hockney, Andy Warhol, Lucian Freud, Antony Gormley, Gilbert & George, Damien Hirst, Roy Lichtenstein, and Tracey Emin.
