Serpentine Gallery

The Serpentine Gallery, located in Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, central London takes its name from the nearby Serpentine Lake. It concentrates on exhibiting modern and contemporary art and is one of London's best-loved and most visited smaller galleries attracting three-quarters of a million visitors a year. Set up in 1970 it is housed in a classical 1934 tea pavilion and has shown the works of world renowned artist who include Man Ray, Henry Moore, Andy Warhol, Paula Rego, Bridget Riley, Damien Hirst, and Jeff Koons. The gallery also houses at its entrance a permanent work by Ian Hamilton Finlay dedicated to Diana, Princess of Wales, the Serpentine's former patron. The work comprises eight benches, a tree-plaque, and a carved stone circle.
