Dalesman

Is nowadays a bi-monthly magazine covering the who of the county of Yorkshire. However it started life in March 1939 under the auspices of its creator and editor journalist Harry Scott who continued in the post until 1988. The magazine was originally titled 'The Yorkshire Dalesman' and published on a monthly basis. And circulated only to the Dales. However it soon became not only a northern institution but the largest selling periodical and remains so today. Concentrating on the entire county each issue contains stories and happenings of Yorkshire people and places. Over the years contributors have included writers J. B. Priestly, Alan Bennett, Ella Pontefract and artists Ashley Jackson, R. V. Pitchforth, Joseph Appleyard, Arthur Bell Foster and Gertrude Priestman.
