Founded in 1947 by Charles Ede whose sole aim was to create beautifully bound books that were affordable for everyone. Passionately fond of art, he employed top quality artists in a variety of media such as engraving, etching, lithograph and wood-cuts. The commissioned artists past and present include Joan Hassall, Garrick Palmer, Edward Bawden, Edward la Dell, Michael Ayrton, John Bratby, Julian Trevelyan and Victor Reinganum.
