National Motor Museum

The museum houses amongst other things the Shell Heritage Art Collection arguably one of the most important collections of commercial art in Britain. It spans the period from the 1900's to the present and contains some of the most impressive advertising ever produced in the UK. These include motoring postcards and posters ranging in time from the beginning of the last century into the 1930’s. The designers and artists behind these poster included brothers Paul and John Nash, Vanessa Bell, Ben Nicholson, Graham Sutherland, Edward Bawden, Mel Calman, John Piper, Edward Ardizzone McKnight Kauffer and many more. In all the total number of posters exceeds 7,000 and more than 1,000 original artworks all related to the age of motoring.
