National Railway Museum

The National Railway Museum (NRM) is based on its present site and falls under the auspices of the British National Museum of Science and Industry. It tells the story of rail transport within the British Isles and its effect on society. Established in York in 1975, as well as housing a huge collection important railway vehicles and rolling stock it also has other artefacts and written and printed memorabilia. The collection features many thousands of railway posters depicting places within Great Britain and elsewhere in the work as well as a fine original art collection. Artists represented include Charles Pears, F. Gregory Brown, Leonard Richmond, Frank Newbould, Albert Hammond, Algernon Talmage, Ian Cryer, Claude Buckle, Clifford Rowe, Tom Purvis, Guy Malet, Stanhope Alexander Forbes, Terence Cuneo, Anna Zinkeisen and Doris Zinkeisen.

The Museum has won many awards, including the European Museum of the Year Award in 2001.
