The Quiver

This weekly magazine was published by Cassell's with the object of defending and promoting biblical truth, good morals and the advance of religion in the homes of its readers and beyond. It began life in 1861 and lasted for nearly a century only ceasing to be published in 1956. While on a tour of America in 1859, publisher John Cassell (1817–1865) who was a temperance advocate, originated the idea of a periodical which would supply Sunday reading for the family.

Contributors to the magazine included Gunning King, Charles Cowper Charles and Henry Brock, Luke Fildes, Balliol Salmon, Archibald Standish Hartrick, Hubert von Herkomer, Heath Robinson and George Stampa.
