Stained Glass Museum

Founded in the early 1970’s and opened to the public in 1979 the Museum is based inside Ely Cathedral and is the only museum in the United Kingdom totally committed to stained glass. It was originally established to rescue and restore endangered stained glass windows that might have otherwise been destroyed or lost to the nation. There are over 100 panels in the collection some over 800 years old that date from medieval times. They are not only of a religious nature i.e. from churches and other religious establishments but also of a secular nature. The Museum also runs regular classes in all aspects of stained and painted glass production and design.
