Hospitalfield

Located near the sea at Arbroath, Scotland this art establishment has enjoyed a unique place in Scotland's architectural and artistic heritage for over two hundred years. Dramatically remodelled by Patrick Allan-Fraser from 1850, the house was bequeathed to the nation in 1890. The Patrick Allan-Fraser of Hospitalfield Trust was created by Allan-Fraser himself and was set in motion on his demise in 1890. The primary aim of the Trust has constantly been to support young artists in their chosen discipline. A list of its alumni and teachers includes William Burns, William Birnie, George Harcourt, Isabel Babianska, Neil Dallas Brown, Robert Henderson Blyth and Joan Eardley.

The Trust also boasts a fine art collection containing the work of artists from the Victorian era to the present day. These include paintings by W. P. Frith and Augustus Egg.
