Moseley School of Art

The School of Art located on Moseley Road, Birmingham was designed and built by architect William Henry Bidlake, (1861-1938) a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1899 and officially opened for its first student intake in 1900. It was built as the first municipal branch art school in Birmingham. Its aim was to enable students wishing to pursue a career in fine arts and jewellery design to progress to Birmingham School of Art in the city centre. The School was closed by the City of Birmingham Education Committee in 1976. The building is listed as Grade II*. It was designed by W. H. Bidlake in 1899 and opened in 1900. It closed in 1975 and was then used by the British Association of Muslims. It stands directly opposite the Public Library and Baths. It is Grade II* listed.

Alumni include musicians Ali Campbell, former lead singer of UB40, Christine McVie, of Fleetwood Mac, and Roy Wood of The Move, Electric Light Orchestra, and Wizzard. Notable artist alumni include Ronald Pennell, Peter Phillips, artist and co-founder of the Pop Art Movement, painter and art teacher and John Walker, painter and printmaker.
