Northern School of Art

This School of Art officially came into existence in September 2018. It has gone through many incarnations since the 1870's namely West Hartlepool School of Art, Middlesbrough College of Art and Cleveland College of Art. It is now an art education establishment specialising in further and higher art and design. Thus it is the only specialist art and design college in the north-east of England and one of only three in the country in the further education sector. The School offers courses aimed at 16-year-old + school-leavers all the way through to degree level, as well as part-time evening classes. The multiple Higher Education courses offer degrees in textiles, photography, Fine Art, Illustration, Film, Costume Design, Graphic Design, theatre design and much more. Alumni and staff at the aforementioned establishments include Basil Beattie, Mackenzie Thorpe, William Tillyer, Margaret Green, Harry Thubron, Olwyn Bowey and renowned filmmakers brother Tony and Ridley Scott.
