Black and White Artists' Society of Ireland

Established in 1913 with its inaugural exhibition held in Dublin's Merrion Row in October of that year. Its members included Dermod O'Brien, Jack Yeats, Rose Barton, Bingham MacGuiness, George Atkinson, Myra K. Hughes, James Ward, Jane Inglis, Dorothy Fitzgerald, and Oswald Reeves. With few exceptions, the members were Irish residents and as a result, Irish objectives figured prominently in the work executed by them in a variety of mediums. A third exhibition was held in April 1916 but no mention of anything after that date. Maybe the Easter Uprising and subsequent 'troubles' saw an end to the Society.
