Contemporary Art Society for Wales

Founded in 1937 the object of the society is the promotion and appreciation of the arts among the people of Wales. Its aims are modelled closely on its English neighbour specifically in the appointment of an annual ‘buyer’ who, within financial constraints, is given free reign to the purchase works by contemporary Welsh artists and or those with considerable alliance with the Principality. Work held in its collections include such artists as David Jones, Augustus John, Gwen John, Ceri Richards, Tom Rathmell, Evan Charlton, Kyffin Williams and Bert Isaac. All works are 'allocated' to museums and art galleries within Wales.
