New Art Club

Founded in 1940 by J. D. Fergusson and his wife Margaret Morris but did not hold its first exhibition until 1942. Members did not have a unified style, but shared left-wing views and were influenced by contemporary continental art. Members included Donald Bain, William Crosbie, Marie de Banzie, Bet Low, Polish émigré artists Jankel Adler Josef Herman and Isabel Babianska.

This organisation gave rise to the New Scottish Group of painters of which Fergusson was also the first President. The 'Club' lasted a brief two years. Other members included
