Society of Botanical Artists

As far as art societies go the Society of Botanical Artists (SBA) is in its infancy having been created as comparatively recently as 1985. Nonetheless, the quality of the work then society's members is of the highest standard boasting Suzanne Lucas MBE as its founder member. Her aim was to create a body focus for the furtherance of the centuries-old practice of quality in this specific aspect of art. The Society's first Open Exhibition 'Flowers and Gardens' took place in April 1986 at the Mall Galleries, London with the then President of the RA, Sir Roger de Grey KCVO, performing the opening ceremony. Until 2004 the SBA held its annual exhibitions at Westminster Gallery located at the Central Hall Westminster. In 2005 due to major refurbishment the SBA were unable to hold an exhibition but were able to restart in 2006. Due to failing health, Suzanne Lucas retired as President and was replaced by vice-president and Founder Member Margaret Stevens as President.
