Society of Modern Portrait Painters

Founded 1907 it held its first exhibition at the Royal Institute Galleries, Suffolk Street, Piccadilly. The Society's stated aims were to ensure to the work of some of the best of British based younger portrait painters were given full recognition. George Washington Thomas Lambert was the founding member and main protagonist. It appears to have ceased its annual exhibitions c. 1921.
