Society of Sussex Painters

Formed in 1924 the aim was and still is to offer a local showcase for professional artists living, working or associated with the county. The title and one assumes scope of the Society was enlarged when it was renamed the Society of Sussex Painters, Sculptors and Engravers. When exactly this change came about is not yet known. Members have included Glynn Philpott, George Hooper, Dorothy Coke, Norman Clark, Louis Ginnett, Charles Knight and Claude Muncaster amongst many others. Venues in the county include Worthing Museum and Art Gallery and the Arun Art Centre, Arundel. The similarly named Association of Sussex Artists is to my knowledge unrelated.
