Dulwich Picture Gallery

This establishment is as its name suggests an art gallery located in Dulwich, South London. It was designed by architect Sir John and opened to the public in 1817 and is probably the oldest public art gallery in England. It is today designated as a Grade II* listed building. The acquisition of artworks by its founders and bequests from patrons has resulted in the Gallery housing one of the country's finest collections of Old Masters, particularly of French, Italian and Spanish Baroque paintings and in British portraiture from Tudor times to the 19th century. Notable artists housed in the collection include Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Hogarth, Constable, Reynolds, Poussin, Ruben’s name but a few.

In recent times the gallery has promoted the work of contemporary 20th artists through exhibitions, residencies and in their permanent collection. These include the work of artists such as Sam Rabin, Humphrey Ocean, Michael Kenny, Jean Cooke, Jacqueline Rizvi, Tom Phillips, Graham Sutherland and Charles Fairfax Murray amongst many.
