Glynn Vivian Art Gallery

Founded by its benefactor Richard Glynn Vivian (1835–1910) in 1908, the gallery was eventually opened three years later in 1911 after his demise. He had, however, donated his large collection of porcelain and old master paintings. Over the century of its existence, the gallery has acquired major works not only by Welsh or Welsh-based artists such as Augustus John, Gwen John, Ceri Richards, Kyffn Williams, Joseph Herman, Evan Walters and Alfred Janes but by other British and European artists including Gustave Doré, Jacob Epstein, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Paul Nash, Mark Gertler and Gilbert Spencer. These are housed in the handsome classic Neo-Classical Italianate building close to the centre of Swansea.
