Leamington Spa Art Gallery

The Art Gallery & Museum has a permanent collection of over 11,000 objects in the fields of art, crafts, sculpture, local and social history, archaeology and ethnography. Most have been donated by local people, beginning in the 1860's and continuing to the present day. From its launch in 1814 the Assembly Rooms and Baths located within the Royal Pump Rooms had been used to offer health treatments and recreational services for local residents of Leamington. Toward the close of the 20th century it was obvious that the building was in need of a major overhaul. The town's Art Gallery & Museum and Library were relocated to the restored building, which they share with the refurbished Assembly Rooms. Work commenced in 1997 and lasted more than two years at a cost in excess of £7 million. The Art Gallery & Museum has adopted Medical History as a new area for collecting since the move to the Royal Pump Rooms in 1999. This manifests the history of the building as a centre for medical treatments for more than two hundred years

The art collection located in the former hydrotherapy pool room is the perfect location to display the 'stars' of the collection. Artist on often display include Terry Atkinson, Vanessa Bell, Patrick Caulfield,Terry Frost, Sylvia Gosse, Duncan Grant, Ivon Hitchens, Mary Kessel, Simon Lewty, LS Lowry, Paul Nash, Marc Quinn, Bridget Riley and Stanley Spencer. A recent acquisition has been a work by Damian Hirst and an installation by Christine Borland.
