Messum Fine Art
David Messum (b.1943) opened his first eponymous gallery in 1963 at 1 The Parade, Bourne End, Buckinghamshire. Since then, his company has been an active force in British art, largely focusing on the 20th and 21st centuries. In 1968, he relocated to 26 London End, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. His first central London gallery was at 11 Bury Street, St James's, which was a major development in the company's trading, providing a prestigious location to deal in high-quality traditional and British Impressionist paintings, and began to specialise in marine art. In 1988, he opened his second London gallery at 34 St. George Street with a major exhibition of works by Laura Knight. In 1993, he again moved to 28 Cork Street in the heart of the London art scene. In 2020, leaving Cork Street and Mayfair behind, the company opened its most recent space at 12 Bury Street. His exhibitions have been accompanied by well-produced and expertly illustrated catalogues, which are today collectors' items.
Artists whose work has been exhibited include William Bowyer, Fred Dubery, Margaret Green, Margaret Thomas, Len Tabner, Kurt Jackson, Karin Jonzen, Lionel Bulmer, Rose Hilton and Wilfred de Glehn, to name just a few.
