Williamson Art Gallery

Opened on 1 December 1928, the Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead is a single storey building is Neo Georgian in style. Local shipping magnate John Williamson and his son Patrick assisted with financial support for its creation. Its art collection numbers some 6000 oil paintings, watercolours, drawings and prints. Its strength lies in its British works concentrating as one would expect on artists with Wirral, Merseyside and North Wales connections. Philip Wilson Steer and George Jardine are featured.
