John Kinross Scholarship

Each year, the Royal Scottish Academy John Kinross Scholarship enables ten final year and postgraduate art and architecture students the opportunity to research and develop their practice in Florence for up to three months. Upon their return, examples of scholars' work are accessioned to the collection of the Royal Scottish Academy. Established in 1981, J. B. Kinross CBE created the John Kinross Memorial Fund in memory of his father, architect John Kinross (1855-1931). It has supported over 450 emerging artists and distributed over £800,000 in funds at the time of writing. From its modest beginnings, the Scholarship has grown into the most important travelling award the Royal Scottish Academy has ever administered, and the current guidelines continue to reflect the spirit in which it was originally envisioned.
