Bartlett School of Architecture

The Bartlett School of Architecture has a long and distinguished history, evolving from the first architectural chair in the United Kingdom in 1841 to become a globally recognised multidisciplinary faculty. It was formally established in 1919 and named after its benefactor, Sir Herbert Bartlett (1842-1921), a renowned civil engineer. A Chair in Planning was created in 1914, and the Department of Urban Planning then merged with the School of Architecture. In 2024, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) validated all architecturally related courses. In 2024 the School was rated as the finest of its type for 11 consecutive years
