Blackburn School of Art
Blackburn College started as Blackburn Technical College, which was established in 1888. The Victoria Building was designed to house the college and was funded through public donations and subscriptions. The foundation stone was officially laid by the Prince (later Edward VII) and the Princess of Wales. It originally specialised in engineering and textiles, later introducing art and art-related courses, in 1984. Over time, Blackburn's school of art has expanded its offerings to include a wider range of further and higher education courses, as well as apprenticeships and employer training. The college aimed to equip residents with the skills needed for the industries in Blackburn and the surrounding area.
