Redruth School of Art
The school of art, originally part of the Redruth School of Mines and Art, was established c. 1882. It played a significant role in vocational and further education, offering art and craft courses to various age groups and skill levels. The school, located on Clinton Road, eventually became a part of Camborne Technical College and continued to be a centre for art education in the region. Mining education moved to Camborne, and the Redruth site focused on art and science, becoming known as the Redruth School of Art. This, in turn, became part of Camborne Technical College, providing further education opportunities. The school's legacy includes contributions to ceramics, design crafts, and the broader field of fine art. The School of Art, as it was known, became part of Cambourne Technical College, continued in a reduced form for a few years, closing in 1980-81.
Artists associated with the school as pupils or teachers include Sven Berlin, Michael Canney, Marion Crace Hocken and Denis Mitchell.
