Salisbury College of Art
The history of the Salisbury School of Art is a journey from a small Victorian art gallery to its eventual integration into what is now Wiltshire College & University Centre. Founded in 1894, it was originally located in Hamilton Hall on New Street, a building constructed in 1871 for the Literary and Scientific Institute. In 1894, the Salisbury Corporation took control of the institution, then known as the School of Science and Art and in 1927 and in 1935 it officially became the City of Salisbury School of Art & Crafts, offering both fine and applied arts, including evening classes for industrial workers.
In the 1960's, the school moved from New Street to a new site on Southampton Road, where it became known as Salisbury College of Art and Design. In 1992, the College merged with the adjacent Salisbury College of Technology to form Salisbury College. Today, it is part of the Wiltshire College & University Centre, following further mergers in 2002. The Salisbury campus underwent a £14 million redevelopment completed in 2021.
