Suffolk College

Formerly known as Civic College Ipswich, it was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 21 July 1961 in an area of Ipswich known as the Rope Walk, which was demolished to make way for the new buildings. The new state-of-the-art building for the transformed college came at a cost of £70 million, opening in the summer of 2009 with a sports centre, music studios, theatre, the Forefront Gallery, and a restaurant. In 2009, the College was split into Suffolk New College, dealing with further education, and University Campus Suffolk, later the University of Suffolk, dealing with higher education courses.
