Weston-super-Mare School of Art

The School of Art at the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare was established in 1845 as the Weston-super-Mare School of Art and Science, which celebrated 180 years in 2025. The school became part of the larger Weston College in 1970, and in 1993 it became an autonomous public body where a variety of art courses are taught today. Warren Storey's leadership was a key figure in the art school's history. He was appointed Head in 1950 and held the position for 34 years. Storey was known for his teaching talent and determination to keep the school thriving through periods of difficulty, including several attempts to 'close' the School. Storey was an influential educator in the West Country region, working alongside other prominent art figures like Paul Feiler in Bristol, Reggie Dent in Cheltenham, Alex Mackenzie in Plymouth, and Clifford Fishwick in Exeter.
