Canterbury Royal Museum and Art Gallery

The gallery was closed in November 2008 for refurbishment and is scheduled for reopening in 2012 in a new location, the Beaney Institute in the centre of the city. Paintings by Van Dyke, Burne Jones, Thomas Sidney Cooper, Laura Knight and sculpture by Jacob Epstein feature in the collection. The Sidney Cooper Gallery which opened in March 2004 was originally designed to house an art school founded in 1882 by the British cattle painter, Thomas Sidney Cooper. It now forms part of the Canterbury Christchurch University.
