Harrogate Art Gallery

Originally built in 1806 as Harrogate’s first spa, the Mercer Art Gallery as it is known, underwent a redevelopment in 1991 to house the town’s collections of paintings and crafts. Comprising more than 2000 works, its strength lies in the holding of British art of the 19th and 20th centuries, including a number of works by William Powell Frith, Atkinson Grimshaw, Edward Burne-Jones, Laura Knight and Alan Davie. The contemporary collections continue with the emphasis on British art, with works by David Mach and Andy Goldsworthy.
