Blighty

A humorous men's magazine launched originally in 1915 to appeal to the Allied soldiers fighting in World War I. It ceased publication in 1920 but was relaunched in 1939 again initially catering for the troops. The covers were mainly cartoon illustrations by such artists as Alfred Bestall, Harold Riley, Arthur Ferrier and Ralph Sallon. This time however it lasted until 1958 gradually becoming more daring with pin-ups on the cover. The magazine underwent further reincarnations when in 1959 it was relaunched as 'Parade & Blighty' and in 1960 as 'Parade'. The magazine gradually became more risqué throughout the 1960's and 1970's with pin-ups gracing the covers and changed hands several times before ceasing publication.
