Colchester School of Art

Its history began in 1885, the year the original Art School was founded. It is housed in the Minories Gallery a notable Tudor building in the city. The School is now part of Colchester Institute a large provider of further and higher education and includes the Faculty of Creative Arts, the Centre for Hospitality and Food Studies, and the Professional Training Centre. Art School alumni and staff include John O’Connor, James Tarr, George Chapman, Hugh Cronyn and Blair Hughes-Stanton. The relationship with the Colchester Art Society is closely connected with the latter using the School facilities to stage their exhibitions.
