Artist Teachers Exhibition Society

James Alexander Dron was a founder member and secretary of the little-known Artist Teachers Exhibition Society which was established in order to maintain a high standard of personal work on the part of its members all of whom were art teachers. It was a short-lived society lasting from 1911-1916. The first exhibition was held in 1911 and the fourth in 1916. The 4th and final exhibition of the Society was open to all art teachers and was held at the Glasgow School of Art and comprised one hundred and fifty exhibits, all given by the artists for the benefit of a War charity fund, the Scottish branch of the Red Cross and the Soldiers' & Sailors' Families Association.

Members and exhibitors included many staff from the Glasgow School of Art and elsewhere including Fra Newbery, James Gray, Ann Macbeth, Alexander Proudfoot and Maurice Greiffenhagen as well as teachers from other institutions in Scotland.
