Scottish Guild of Handicraft

This was a comparatively short-lived Guild that formed in 1898 but lasted only 21 years. It was a society of designers and craftspersons comprising in the main artists, furniture designers and metal workers that had evolved from the Scottish Society of Art Workers also established in 1898 but lasting only until its amalgamation in 1901. Members included William Kellock Brown, Robert Burns, John P Main, Henry Wyse and William Petrie. Meetings were held at the Glasgow School of Art but the Guild relocated to Burghmuir, Stirling in 1906 allegedly to become 'more Scottish'.

Scottish Society of Art Workers

The Scottish Society of Art Workers was formed in 1898 with the aim of promoting the decorative arts in Scotland and bringing art workers together "for mutual study and encouragement". Members of the Society included Fra Newbery, Phoebe Traquair, William Kellock Brown, Ruby Pickering, James Pittendrigh MacGillivray, Robert Burns, John Guthrie, R.S. Lorimer, John Keppie, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Agnes Raeburn, John James Burnet, William Birnie Rhind, James A. Morris, Alexander Nisbet Paterson, James Watt, Oscar Paterson and Jessie Newbery. Society meetings were held at 140 Bath Street, Glasgow and 187 Pitt Street, Glasgow in 1898, and at Corporation Buildings, 264 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow from 1898 to 1901. The Society was dissolved in 1901.
